Pope reaffirms support of celibacy

El Paso News.Net

The Pope has defended celibacy as a commitment to God, following increasing allegations of sexual abuse.
The Pope has ardently defended his position regarding celibacy following new allegations, in recent weeks, of sex scandals that have rocked the Catholic Church in Germany.

Since late January, new allegations of abuse at Catholic institutions across Germany have been made almost every day. Around 170 people have now opened cases against the church.

A source close to the Pope, Freiburg Archbishop Robert Zollitsch, president of a conference of German bishops and the highest-ranking Catholic in Germany said that the Pope was “distraught” over the new allegations being made.

The Pope has simultaneously taken a firm stand on his position with regards to celibacy, however.

“It is the sign of full devotion, the entire commitment to the Lord and to the Lord's business, an expression of giving oneself to God and to others,” he said, while addressing a theological conference hours before meeting with Zollitsch over the sex abuse allegations.

His remarks seemed to come on the heels of those made by Austrian Cardinal, Christoph Schöborn, who argues in the latest edition of his diocesan magazine that celibacy may have encouraged sex abuse.

Pope defends position on celibacy

i am not trying to justify these claims.. just adding perspective.. Like how many millions have received a positive education through the Catholic system? Millions! Usually it is the Catholc system that provides quality education where it is otherwise unavailable.. There needs to be some balance that looks at both sides rather than just a cheap trick to sell newspapers

Maybe those who wish to become priests should be surgically altered to lower their testosterone levels, that seem to be getting them into trouble? And psychologically tested to determine a prediliction towards pedophillia...

Pope and Celibacy

Surely the pope does not refer to any scriptural teaching to support his view of celibacy but instead upholds such principle as 'his view'. He cannot refer to any scripture because such teaching is surely absolutely not scriptural and I am confident the pope is sure about that too.

Taking a high position on the earth and acting like Almighty God or as one assigned by the True God of the Bible, is where all their confusion begins and all those who follow such papal teaching and similar teachings are equally confused.

As God given intelligence dictates, celibacy surely cannot be taught or imposed.

As a personal choice of the Pope... , ok.

But as a devine commandment imposed, that requires a full open conference with parlor tricks from god.

pedophiles

Sooner or later we must all die and when we die we do it all alone. Then we shall find out, who spoke the truth, either Jesus or a ~galljdaj+ . If there is no God, but you followed Jesus’s teachings, you know that you lived a good and honorable life. If there is a God, but you did it your way, then I wish you all the best on your way to hell. As Christianity is a belief system, so is a-theism. So if you are an atheist, you must also keep an open mind that you could be wrong.
Priests can be pedophiles, so can be doctors, dentists, teachers and your good neighbor. Evil resides in the human heart and it does not discriminate anybody. All you need to do, is to study history. History always repeats itself.

Celibacy is Biblical

Jesus does speak of those living the single life for the Kingdom of God. I’m not a robot verse memorizer, but so I’ll let the ex-Protestants has out the scripture verse.

Priestly celibacy is a valid vocation, and a gift from God. That said, it was never mandatory until circa 1000, and even then, it wasn’t a *theological* issue, but political/societal.

Many of the Church’s woes would be lessened if the current odd network of single males were expanded to allow for balance provided by a married clergy. Women as priestesses, however, are out of the question.
