The NFL Combine consists of interviews, media appearances and on-field drills but none is as big as the 40-yard dash. Whether it's watching speedy defensive backs or 300-pound offensive linemen, fans can't seem to run from (get it?) their need for speed. And, depending on the position group, a player can significantly impact his draft stock in a matter of seconds, especially if he can run a time that separates him from the pack.

Who can improve draft stock the most: All position groups

The Rules: Players are given two opportunities to run the 40-yard dash inside Lucas Oil Stadium. Teams can take the best of the two times or average them. Since 1999, times have been recorded electronically.

Current NFL Combine record: Wide receiver John Ross, 4.22 seconds (2017)*

*Fastest time recorded electronically

Here are some current Texans who excelled in the 40-yard dash portion of their NFL Combine performance:

Johnathan Joseph (2006) - 4.31

Will Fuller V (2016) - 4.32

Kenny Stills (2013) - 4.38

Bradley Roby (2014) - 4.39

Lamar Miller (2012) - 4.4

The 2020 NFL Scouting Combine takes place Tuesday, February 25 through Sunday, March 1. On-field drills begin on Thursday, February 27 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
